At a city theatre, the proprietor, Donald Cosgrove, opens his office door and is killed by an escaping blast of heat. Company 17 responds, but most of the blast, a "backdraft" has burned out. Brian and Rimgale arrive to investigate the scene. Brian's former colleagues from 17 seem somewhat resentful that he's taken a desk job. When Sean (Joe Anderson) is looking at a memorial wall with pictures (presumably) of firefighters who were killed in the line of duty, the camera zooms in to show the picture of his father Stephen (played by Kurt Russell in "Backdraft"). It's not particularly deep, but Backdraft is a strong action movie with exceptional special effects. The fire is real for most of the movie and the special effects still look realistic.
